8 Day Kenya Gone Wild Safari

Kenya’s wildlife heritage remains its prime attraction. From the Serengeti in Tanzania, to Kenya’s Masai Mara and back is a once-in-a-lifetime experience to witness. The great wildebeest migration across the plains of East Africa, from the Serengeti occurs between June and September with millions of animals taking part in this awesome display of nature. The best known areas are Masai Mara National Reserve, famous for its abundance of game and its many predators and Amboseli National Park has the best view of the snow-covered Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Tsavo East National Park, is closed to the public and only professional safari companies are allowed to enter.

Safari Itinerary
Day 1

Arrival Jomo Kenyatta Airport

Your adventure begins and ends at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, in Kenya. Upon your arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport you will be met by a member of our team who will drive you to the Holiday Inn Nairobi. Spend one night at the Holiday InnNairobi.

Named after a Maasai watering hole, “enkare nyarobi”, which means “place of cool waters”, Nairobi is known for its tree-lined streets and parks. The skyline, with towering skyscrapers and imposing architecture, draws the attention of visitors from afar.

Accommodation is in a room with en-suite bathroom. Your stay includes breakfast.

Day 2 - 3

Samburu Intrepids Camp

After wholesome breakfast you will be driven to Wilson Airport for your scheduled flight to Buffalo Springs airstrip. From there, you’ll experience your first game drive to the Samburu Intrepids camp.

The best feature of Samburu is not the wildlife or the picturesque surroundings, but the fact that it is one of the lesser-visited regions in Kenya. The peaceful atmosphere and the authentic wilderness experience set it apart from the better-known wildlife reserves in Kenya. Situated on the banks of the Ewaso Ngíro River, with its palm groves and dense forests, there is plentiful wildlife and the bird watching is especially good. The rest of the reserve is fairly hot and semi-arid, making for easy game viewing.

Spend two nights at Samburu Intrepids. Accommodation is in a tent with en-suite facilities. Your stay includes three meals daily, tea, coffee and daily activities.

Adventures include exhilarating game drives.

Insider’s Tips:

  • Toast the sun with your favourite sundowner as it sets over a dramatic bush setting
  • Enjoy a fun-filled evening as local warriors and maidens entertain you with their traditional dances
  • Ask your hosts about their interpretive cultural excursions
Day 4 - 5

Lewa Wildlife Conservancy

After a delicious breakfast you will be driven back to the airstrip for your scheduled flight to the Lewa Airstrip, where a 15 minute journey will bring you to Lewa Safari Camp.

Spend two nights at Lewa Safari Camp. Accommodation is in a beautiful tent with an en-suite bathroom. Your stay is on a full board basis including park fees and scheduled activities.

Adventures include game drives and interpretive bush walks.

Insider’s Tips:

  • Try your hand at the elegant art of fly fishing during your “in between game viewing” time.
  • Sneak off to the game hide and enjoy up-close encounters of wildlife.
Day 6 - 7

Kichwa Tembo Camp

Tuck into a scrumptious breakfast before your drive to the Lewa Airstrip where you will board your scheduled flight to Kichwa Airstrip. Upon your arrival you will be met by a member from our team who will drive you to Kichwa Tembo Masai Mara Tented Camp.

The Masai Mara is Kenya’s most renowned game park, situated in the northern extension of the Serengeti. Its legendary Great Migration, of over two million wildebeest and other antelope, has been described as one of nature’s greatest wildlife spectacles -and an experience every safari enthusiast should witness at least once in their lifetime. Game viewing in this celebrated park is wonderful all round the year, with virtually guaranteed sightings of the Big Five. The park takes its name from the Mara River, which flows through the reserve and the Maasai people, a tribe whose red dress and proud demeanour have ensured they are probably Kenya’s best-known (and most-photographed) people.

Spend two nights at Kichwa Tembo Maasai Mara Tented Camp. Accommodation is in a luxury or standard Hemingway-style safari tent with a lovely en-suite bathroom. Your stay includes three meals daily, teas and coffees and daily lodge activities. Adventures include twice-daily game drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles, birdwatching and daily lectures by a Maasai naturalist.

Optional adventures, at an additional cost, include night game drives on the lodge’s wilderness concession, guided walking trails up and along the Oloololo escarpment, a Maasai community visit, sundowners at a location with spectacular views across the Mara and hot air balloon trips.

Insider’s Tips:

  • Join a Masai warrior under a tree and be spellbound by his wonderful tales of the Masai culture.
  • Be sure to keep your camera on hand to capture the playful antics of the Blue and Copper-tail monkeys that visit the forest around Kichwa Tembo. Nowhere else in the Mara will you see both species co-existing
  • If you’re into all things decadent then you have to try the amazing Kichwa Tembo Hot Chocolate - it will really make your morning!
Day 8

Enjoy an early morning game drive and a mouth-watering breakfast before your drive back to the airstrip. Here you will board your scheduled flight to Wilson Airport, where a car will be waiting to take you to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, for your onward flight.
