Linyanti Wildlife Reserve

This magnificent area boasts of unparalleled wildlife encounters with large herds of buffalo in the dry season and sightings of rare and unique wildlife species such as aardvark. Large herds of elephants can be viewed at the rivers and waterholes, and thousands of zebra concentrate in the winter before heading south. Other wildlife seen includes lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, giraffe, eland, sable, hippo, hyena and various other nocturnal species.

Game is at its most dense during the dry season (May/June to October). The rainy season is hot and humid.

To the north of the Okavango Delta, in the furthest corner of Chobe National Park lies the forgotten paradise of Linyanti. Secluded and uncrowded, this short strip of swampy river frontage is reminiscent of the Okavango’s permanent waterways with papyrus-lined lagoons, reed-beds and a towering canopy of trees. Bordered by the Linyanti River in the north (at the Namibian border), and the Chobe National Park in the east, the Linyanti reserve covers 1,250 km2 of river, open floodplains and dense forests that protect high concentrations of wildlife. The national park only touches the river for a short section on the far eastern edge of the swamp.

Stay in Linyanti Bush Camp or Linyanti Ebony for an exclusive and comfortable experience of this magnificent area or alternatively look at our Saile Tented Camp or Footsteps Across the Linyanti for a more adventure focused safari experience.

Linyanti Wildlife Reserve Attractions

Wildlife viewing in the Linyati region is excellent. It boasts large concentrations of elephant, lion, sable, roan, hippos, and wild dog, building to a peak in the dry winter months. The area also offers spectacular birding year round and is best known for its enormous herds of Elephant which move down to the Linyanti River at the start of the winter months and only move back inland once the main rains arrive.

Sable and Roan Antelope occur, as well as Lion, Leopard and Wild Dog. The marshes are home to Red Lechwe, Sitatunga, Hippo, Crocodiles and wonderful bird life. And moving along the waterways, we can see Kudu, Zebra, Buffalo, Waterbuck and Impala.
