Benguerra is one of two large islands offering luxurious accommodation with Azura’s romantic villas for honeymooners, while Marlin lodge would entice any keen fisherman and diver to experience with their state-of-the art equipment.
Benguerra Lodge is a peaceful retreat with a Moroccan theme with a lot of family activities. Benguerra Island hosts excellent accommodation as well as a menu of choice activities for the water sport enthusiast and for those who just like to soak up the sun.
With beautiful beaches and high golden sand dunes Benguerra is the second largest island in the Bazaruto Archipelago. Travel to Marlin Lodge where you can stay in luxury chalets right on the water’s edge. There is also a wellness spa where you can relax and distress. Or relax in an elegant atmosphere at Azura with its huge spacious thatched villas and walk straight out of your villa into a white sand beach stretching for miles. Azura is the country’s first luxury eco-boutique retreat, built in partnership with the local community. There is also the beautiful Moroccan style Benguerra Lodge with its coral reefs and turquoise seas which recently won the award for Mozambique’s Leading Safari.
Benguerra is blessed with the most intact area of indigenous dune forest of all the islands and it probably offers the best birding as well. Crocodiles populate the fresh water inland lakes which are surrounded by stunning golden dunes. Fly fishing by men and women are increasing in numbers and the sight of someone standing etched against a golden sunrise, gracefully casting their line out over the waves, is a vision as ancient as the sand itself. Frequent records are often broken with big game fishing and monitored carefully - tagged and released.
Some of the best scuba diving and snorkeling in the world is available off Benguerra’s shores with the surrounding coral reefs rich in sea life. The archipelago is one of the last remaining habitats of the endangered Dugong. A pale, voluptuous sea mammal fabled to have made bygone mariners believe in mermaids.
